NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Senior forward Ryan Boyton
scored a goal and added an assist, and two other NU players netted
goals as the Norwich University men's soccer team defeated GNAC
opponent Albertus Magnus, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon.
Boyton scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the
32nd minute when he headed the ball into the net. Sophomore
midfielder Roger Motaze was credited with an assist on the play as
he served the ball into the penalty area.
The Cadets (8-0-1, 2-0-1 GNAC) added a pair of insurance goals
in the second half as senior forwards Drew Dilley and Rob Harlow
each tallied goals. Boyton and senior defender Kyle Przekaza picked
up assists on Dilley's goal, and junior forward Jake Yaris assisted
on Harlow's tally.
Norwich junior goalkeeper Charles Maxwell turned aside all three
shots that he faced to earn the shutout. The Falcons (5-3-1, 1-1-1
GNAC) received fine play in goal from junior keeper Gerald
O'Connor, who made 10 saves on the day.
"This was a total team victory today," said Norwich head coach
Kyle Dezotell. "We showed a great deal of focus throughout the
match in pretty wild conditions. Albertus is always a difficult
place to play, and I was thrilled with the way the entire team
played today. "
Norwich wraps up its three-game road trip on Wednesday, Oct. 1,
when the Cadets travel to Newton, Mass., to battle GNAC rival
Lasell at 4 p.m.
