POULTNEY, Vt. - Senior forward Ryan Boyton
registered a hat trick, and three other NU players scored goals as
the Norwich University men's soccer team defeated Green Mountain
College, 6-0, in a non-conference match on Sunday afternoon.
Norwich (7-0-1) opened the scoring in the ninth minute as Boyton
registered his first goal of the contest at the 8:56 mark off an
assist from freshman midfielder Nick Micucci. Boyton netted his
second goal just 1:02 later as he converted a feed from senior
forward Drew Dilley at the 9:58 mark.
The Cadets were unable to add to their lead until the 50th
minute when Dilley scored off an assist from Boyton. NU increased
its lead to 4-0 in the 59th minute when Boyton tallied his third
marker of the day.
Senior forward Rob Harlow and sophomore forward Jan Heyboer
added unassisted goals later in the second half to round out the
scoring.
Senior goalkeeper Brian Riopelle made eight saves in the Norwich
goal to earn the shutout victory.
Norwich outshot Green Mountain, 31-17, and the Cadets held an
8-0 edge in corner kicks.
"We played well throughout the match today," said NU head coach
Kyle Dezotell. "We possessed the ball very well and were patient
with the ball. It was good to bounce back today and score some
goals after yesterday's game. We had so many chances yesterday, but
just couldn't find the back of the net. Hopefully today's match is
an indication that we're back on track."
Norwich returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 27, when the Cadets
travel to New Haven, Conn., to tangle with GNAC foe Albertus Magnus
at 1 p.m.
