NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Erica Rate scored a game-high
18 points and dished out a game-high four assists, and Christine
Daniels recorded a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds as
the Norwich University women's basketball team defeated Johnson
State College, 69-57, Tuesday evening at Andrews Hall.
Jess Jaggars added nine points and 12 rebounds for the Cadets,
who improve to 5-2 on the season. Kayleigh Shappy and Tara
Stevenson each netted seven points apiece for Norwich.
Norwich broke open a back and forth first half with an 11-0 run
to end the stanza, as the Cadets took a 36-25 lead into the
intermission. Norwich kept Johnson State at bay in the second half,
never allowing the Badgers to get any closer than eight points in
the frame. The Cadets increased their lead to as many as 15 in the
second half en route to the 12-point victory.
Norwich shot 37.9 percent from the field for the game, while
Johnson State converted 36.4 percent of its field goal attempts.
The Cadets outrebounded the Badgers, 49-37, in the game.
Johnson State (3-3) was led by Jenna Lewis, who scored a
team-high 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Staci Cutting
chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds, while Claudia Martineau
added eight points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Norwich returns to action on Jan. 3-4, when the Cadets travel to
Williamstown, Mass., to compete in the Williams College Tournament.
Norwich will face Bates in the first round of the event on
Saturday, Jan. 3, at 6 p.m.
