COLCHESTER, Vt. - Kelsey Cone scored two
goal and added three assists, and Sophie Leclerc scored a goal
and chipped in three assists to lead the Norwich women's ice hockey
team to a 7-1 victory over St. Michael's on Saturday evening in the
St. Michael's Holiday Tournament.
Norwich (4-3-1) scored three goals in the first period and never
looked back en route to the victory.
Sarah Scardino opened the scoring at the 11:01 mark, giving the
Cadets a 1-0 lead. Danielle Laspina made it 2-0 in favor of NU when
she found the back of the net just over two minutes later. Amanda
Gage put Norwich on top 3-0 with a power play goal at the 6:00
mark. Cone assisted on all three first period tallies.
Cone and Leclerc each scored power play goals of their own in
the second period as Norwich built a 5-0 lead entering the third
stanza.
Hilary Davis converted on the power play midway through the
third period and Cone notched a shorthanded goal later in the
stanza.
Kelly Rose Losi ruined the shutout bid when she scored the lone
goal for St. Michael's (2-5-1) late in the third period.
Cindy Fortin made 26 saves in goal for the Cadets to pick up the
victory.
Norwich returns to the ice on Friday, Jan. 11, when the Cadets
travel to Gorham, Maine, to take on Southern Maine. Faceoff is
slated for 4 p.m.
