NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Following another unbeaten
week, the Norwich University men's soccer team continued to reap
conference honors as freshman standout Emmanuel Motaze was selected
as the GNAC "Rookie of the Week" and senior Jake Pagragan earned
league "Goalie of the Week" accolades.
Norwich (7-1-0, 3-0-0 GNAC) went 2-0 last week to extend its win
streak to six straight matches. The Cadets, who have not lost since
dropping a 2-0 decision to Plattsburgh State in the second game of
the year, shut out Johnson State 3-0 and blanked Albertus Magnus
2-0 last week.
Motaze, who started both matches, netted an insurance goal in
NU's 3-0 shutout of Johnson State. The native of Cameroon, who is
in his first season as a member of the Cadets, has been an
instrumental part of the team's success thus far this season.
Motaze, who has earned "Rookie of the Week" laurels twice in the
last three weeks, has started each of Norwich's eight games this
season. He has scored two goals and added two assists, and his six
points rank fourth on the team.
Pagragan, meanwhile, turned in a perfect week, picking up
shutout victories in each of Norwich's two games. The Richland,
Ind., native turned away four shots against Johnson State and made
three saves versus Albertus Magnus en route to earning the
conference's "Goalie of the Week" honor for the second straight
week.
For the season, Pagragan has posted a stingy 0.80 goals-against
average. He has made 29 saves, and recorded three shutouts.
Motaze and Pagragan have helped Norwich outscore its opposition
28-6 this season.
The Norwich men's soccer team returns to action this afternoon
(Sept. 25) when the Cadets host Green Mountain College at Howard
Field. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
