Mekkena Boyd joins Norwich University as a coach following a distinguished collegiate basketball career at Dartmouth College and Penn State University. During her time at Dartmouth, she became known for her defensive intensity, high energy, and ability to make an impact on both ends of the floor. In her junior season, she led the Big Green with 58 steals, the highest single-season total by a Dartmouth player since the 2014–15 season.
She also earned Beach Classic All-Tournament Team honors, received the Dartmouth Black Student-Athlete Alliance People’s Choice Award, and was recognized as the recipient of the Gail Koziara ’82 Most Valuable Player award during her sophomore season. As a senior, she led Dartmouth in three-point shooting percentage.
Boyd began her collegiate career at Penn State before transferring to Dartmouth, where she competed against top Ivy League programs and graduated with a degree in psychology.
A Vermont native, Boyd enjoyed an outstanding high school career at Champlain Valley Union, helping lead her team to two Vermont State Championships and an impressive 86-7 overall record. Her individual honors included First Team All-State recognition, Metro Player of the Year in 2020, and a Gatorade Player of the Year nomination. She also excelled academically, earning honor roll recognition while serving as co-chair of her school's Athletic Leadership Council.
This season marks Boyd’s first year coaching at Norwich University. Most recently, she worked in administration and now looks forward to bringing her collegiate playing experience, leadership, and passion for the game to the Norwich women’s basketball program.
