Emily Kinneston enters her first season as an assistant coach for the women's basketball team in 2024-25.
Kinneston was most recently an assistant coach at Champlain Valley Union High School under Norwich head coach Ute Otley. Kinneston had a storied career as a player at CVU, winning two state championships and going undefeated in the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons. A two-time Vermont Gatorade Player of the Year, two-time Miss Basketball for the state of Vermont, and the VBCA Women's Basketball Player of the Year her senior season, Kinneston was team captain as a senior at CVU and led the team in scoring, steals, blocks, and rebounds.
"I've been lucky to work with Emily both in a coach-player relationship and as colleagues on the CVU staff," Otley said. "She brings an exceptional work ethic, a deep understanding of the student-athlete experience, and high-level basketball knowledge to our staff. I'm thrilled to have her working with me at Norwich!"
After CVU, Kinneston was a four-year standout at American University from 2014-18. The 2017-18 Patriot League Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year her senior season, Kinneston helped lead the team to a record-breaking 26-7 season. The team capped the season with its second Patriot League title and NCAA Tournament berth, narrowly losing to UCLA in the first round.
Kinneston became the 18th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point plateau, closing her career with 1,128 points to rank 12th all-time. Kinneston is just one of only five players in Patriot League history to be selected as both the player and scholar-athlete of the year in a single season.
