Ben Zacher ’20 M'25 enters his fourth season as the Associate Director of Athletic Communications at Norwich University in 2025–26, continuing to oversee the day-to-day operations of an increasingly digital and dynamic department.
Zacher originally joined the department in August 2022 as Broadcast & Video Coordinator before earning a promotion to Associate Director later that fall. He now supports media relations for all 23 varsity teams, serving as the primary contact for 10 programs, while managing game-day operations, digital content, statistics, press releases, and live broadcasts.
Among his most visible contributions has been the successful redesign and launch of the Norwich Athletics website via SIDEARM Sports, as well as the implementation of the University’s Digital Athletic Hall of Fame. The latter debuted as part of a 2024–25 branding campaign and now spans online platforms and touchscreen displays in the Athletic Center, preserving and promoting Norwich’s athletic legacy.
In 2024, Zacher helped lead Norwich’s efforts in hosting the GNAC Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships for the first time, coordinating a full-scale event across campus. He also organizes annual events such as the Ed Hockenbury Classic and Chris Munn 7s Rugby Tournament, while overseeing promotional campaigns for regional and national honors, including the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America program. Under his guidance, Norwich has earned back-to-back GNAC Athlete of the Year awards for men’s sports in 2024 and 2025, honoring swimmers Benjamin Stark ’24 and Will Thompson ’25.
Since stepping into his role, Zacher has also supervised the work-study program for Athletic Communications, recruiting, training, and mentoring student workers in media relations, stats, and content production. He remains an active member of College Sports Communicators and serves as the primary advisor to the Norwich Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee, curating materials, writing announcements, and emceeing the annual induction ceremony.
Zacher’s prior experience includes freelance broadcasting and media roles at Howard Payne University, Goucher College, and the Vermont Mountaineers. With the Mountaineers, he led media operations during the 2019 NECBL All-Star Game and served as a social media coordinator and press box supervisor. At Norwich, he began calling basketball and lacrosse games in 2021–22 before transitioning to full-time.  His work also included calling the 2022 GNAC Men's Lacrosse Championship and Norwich's NCAA Division III National Tournament opening-round game.
As a student, Zacher worked extensively within the Department of Athletic Communications as a statistician, camera operator, and media assistant. He contributed to the 2018 NCAA Division III Women’s Ice Hockey Championship, managed athletic record book projects, and served as the team manager for women’s basketball from 2016 to 2020.
Zacher graduated magna cum laude from Norwich in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Communications and minors in English and Writing. He earned his Master of Science in Leadership in February 2025.
