Dave Botelho enters his 31st season as the Director of Sports Medicine and Head Athletic Trainer at Norwich University in 2025–26.

Botelho is responsible for all operations of the athletic training department and supervises a staff of five athletic trainers.

In addition to supervising the athletic training programs for all 23 varsity sports, Botelho is a clinical preceptor and adjunct professor in the Athletic Training Education Program at NU. Botelho is the primary athletic trainer for the football (fall and spring), women’s basketball, and tennis teams.

Botelho came to Norwich from Hampton University, where he served four years in the same capacity. In addition to working as an athletic trainer, Botelho was a faculty member at both Hampton and Old Dominion University.

Botelho is a 1989 graduate of Rhode Island College with a degree in physical education and a minor in psychology. He was a four-year member of the Rhode Island College baseball team and served as a captain during his senior season.

He earned a master’s degree in education with an emphasis in athletic training at Old Dominion University in 1991. Botelho is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and holds an Athletic Training license with the state of Vermont.

Botelho resides in Essex Junction with his wife, Gayle, and their sons, Jake, Brady, and Dylan.
