NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University Athletic Department has announced the hiring of
Jared Friedman as an Assistant Athletic Trainer, joining the Norwich Sports Medicine staff ahead of the 2026-27 academic year.
Friedman joins a staff led by Director of Sports Medicine and Head Athletic Trainer
David Botelho, alongside Associate Head Athletic Trainer
Jess Moore, Senior Assistant Athletic Trainer
Katie Smith, Assistant Athletic Trainer
Joe Salatel, and Assistant Athletic Trainer
Marin Fowler. At Norwich, Friedman will work with several Cadet varsity programs, including women's soccer, men's and women's swimming & diving, and men's lacrosse.
"I am excited to welcome
Jared Friedman to the Norwich University Sports Medicine family," Botelho said. "Throughout the hiring process, it was clear that Jared shares our commitment to creating relationships built on trust, compassion, and teamwork. We take great pride in the culture we've built within our department, and I know Jared will be a wonderful fit. We're excited for our student-athletes and coaches to get to know him, and we look forward to the knowledge, energy, and perspective he will bring to our team."
Friedman arrives at Norwich after completing both his undergraduate and graduate work at West Virginia University. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology in May 2024 and completed his Master of Science in Athletic Training in May 2026. His background includes clinical experience with WVU football, WVU volleyball, WVU swimming & diving, and WVU Medicine Orthopedics, giving him a broad foundation across team-based, clinical, and high-performance athletic environments.
"As an active member of the military who commissioned through ROTC, I understand many of the unique challenges that the athletes and students at Norwich face," Friedman said. "That is what excites me most about joining the staff here, the opportunity to work with a population unlike that of any other university.
"I was a multi-sport athlete throughout my life, earned my undergraduate degree in Exercise Physiology, and went directly into a master's program in Athletic Training. It didn't take long for me to realize that I had found my passion. The relationships you build and the positive impact you can have on athletes are unlike anything else. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue growing as a professional, and I look forward to everything Norwich University has to offer."
During his immersive clinical experience with WVU football, Friedman assisted with injury evaluation and rehabilitation programs, supported daily athletic training operations and event preparation, maintained injury and treatment records, and traveled with the team to provide care at away competitions. He also completed clinical rotations with WVU Medicine Orthopedics, WVU volleyball, and WVU swimming & diving, where he gained experience in injury assessment, rehabilitation, emergency response protocols, patient care, and clinical documentation.
Friedman is a Board of Certification-certified athletic trainer and holds additional credentials through the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Performance Enhancement Specialist. He also has Graston Essential certification and Red Cross CPR, AED, and First Aid certification. In May 2026, he commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army.
His military background creates a natural connection to Norwich's student-athlete population, which includes members of the Corps of Cadets, ROTC participants, civilian students, and athletes balancing a wide range of academic, athletic, leadership, and service commitments.
Friedman joins a Norwich Sports Medicine staff responsible for supporting the health, safety, rehabilitation, and performance needs of Cadet student-athletes across the department's varsity programs.
