NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Continuing one of the strongest starts in program history, the Norwich University men's tennis team delivered another composed performance on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Vermont State University Lyndon, 6-1, in Empire 8 Conference action inside Shapiro Fieldhouse.
With the victory, the Cadets improve to 9-1 overall and remain unbeaten in conference play at 3-0, while extending their winning streak to six matches. Norwich also stays perfect on its home courts at 7-0 this season and completes a season sweep of the Hornets after a 7-0 win in the opening match on Mar. 11.
Prior to the start of the match, the Cadets honored lone senior
Ethan Teluk (Manlius, N.Y.) as part of the day's Senior Day festivities.
Norwich once again established control early, sweeping all three doubles courts to claim the opening point. The No. 1 pairing of
Terrance Bayly-Henshaw (Scottsville, N.Y.) and
Juan Gonzalez Torres (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) handled David Gratton and Wesley McIntyre, 6-2, setting the tone for the afternoon.
At No. 2 doubles, Teluk and
Pierce Rohm (Queensbury, N.Y.) followed with a decisive 6-1 victory over Parker Pierce and Addie Jensen, while
Reynard Gan (Chandler, Ariz.) and
Brandon Adamson (Londonderry, N.H.)Â completed the sweep with another 6-1 result against Joe Buchanan and Olivia Cordova at No. 3.
Carrying that momentum into singles play, Norwich secured five of six matches to seal the team victory.
Bayly-Henshaw continued his strong play at the top of the lineup, earning a 6-1, 6-2 decision over McIntyre at No. 1. Gonzalez Torres added a point at No. 3 with a commanding 6-0, 6-2 win against Pierce, while Gan delivered one of the day's most dominant performances, cruising to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Buchanan at No. 4.
Rohm remained steady at No. 5, posting a flawless 6-0, 6-0 result against Jensen, and
Jack Desjardins (Nashua, N.H.) closed out the scoring for Norwich with an 8-0 win over Cordova at No. 6.
VTSU Lyndon's lone point came at No. 2 singles, where Gratton defeated Teluk, 6-4, 6-2.
The Cadets' depth and consistency throughout the lineup proved decisive, as Norwich controlled the match from doubles through the closing singles contests.

Norwich will return to Shapiro Fieldhouse on Friday, Apr. 10, hosting Salem State University in a non-conference matchup at 3:00 p.m. The Cadets will then travel to Vermont State University Johnson on Saturday, Apr. 11, for another 3:00 p.m. contest.
