PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Norwich University men's tennis team wrapped up the 2026 regular season on Wednesday afternoon, falling to Rhode Island College, 6-1, in a non-conference matchup at the RIC Tennis Center.
With the result, the Cadets conclude the regular season at 12-3 overall and 4-1 in Empire 8 Conference play, while finishing 8-1 at home and 4-2 in road contests.
Rhode Island College gained the early upper hand in doubles competition, sweeping all three courts to secure the opening point. At No. 2 doubles, Ethan Clegg and James McShane were first to finish for the Anchormen, posting a 6-0 win over
Stephen Hartigan (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and
Juan Gonzalez Torres (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico).
The hosts followed on the No. 3 court, where Sairaj Srinivasan and John Vaughan defeated
Ethan Teluk (Manlius, N.Y.) and
Reynard Gan (Chandler, Ariz.), 6-2. The closest doubles battle came at the top flight, but Rhode Island College still completed the sweep as Travis Chartier and Kyle Neuendorf edged
Jaxson Redmond (Kennebunkport, Maine) and
Terrance Bayly-Henshaw (Scottsville, N.Y.) in a 7-6 (7-2) decision.
Rhode Island College carried that momentum into singles play, quickly adding to its lead. Liam Berube delivered the first singles result of the afternoon with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Teluk at No. 5, and McShane followed with a 6-0, 6-1 result against Hartigan at No. 3.
Vaughan then earned another point for the hosts at No. 4, defeating Gonzalez Torres, 6-0, 6-2, before Clegg secured the clinching point at the top of the lineup with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Redmond.
Gan turned in a competitive effort at No. 6, but Kyle O'Connor held on for a 6-3, 6-4 victory to add Rhode Island College's sixth point of the day.
Norwich avoided the sweep on the final court to finish, where Bayly-Henshaw produced the Cadets' lone win. Battling through a tight second set, Bayly-Henshaw defeated Srinivasan, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 2 singles to close the afternoon on a positive note.
Though the final score favored the Anchormen, the Cadets now shift their full attention to postseason play after another strong regular season, one that featured the best start in program history and a second consecutive runner-up finish in the Empire 8 East Division standings.
