Men's Lacrosse: Fleury earns regional recognition with NEILA Team of the Week selection

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Following one of the most impactful individual performances of the season, Norwich University men's lacrosse senior attacker Drew Fleury (Nashua, N.H.) has been named to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Division III Team of the Week, as announced by the organization on Monday afternoon.

The recognition marks the first selection of Fleury's career and comes as part of a new weekly initiative launched by NEILA this season, which honors standout performances across the region.  Six student-athletes from Division III are chosen each week by the NEILA Executive Board following nominations submitted by coaches.

Fleury delivered a dominant all-around effort during Norwich's 1-1 week, totaling 10 points on eight goals and two assists, while adding four ground balls and three caused turnovers.  The senior attacker was particularly instrumental in the Cadets' dramatic 12-10 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Senior Day.

In that contest, Fleury produced one of the top individual outings in recent program history, erupting for eight points on six goals and two assists as Norwich stormed back from a five-goal second-half deficit.  He played a decisive role in the Cadets' game-defining 7-0 run, contributing to multiple key scoring sequences, including the game-tying goal and the eventual game-winner that gave Norwich its first lead of the afternoon.

Fleury also found the back of the net twice earlier in the week during a non-conference matchup against Trinity College, finishing the two-game stretch with 19 shots and 10 shots on goal while continuing to serve as one of Norwich's primary offensive catalysts.

The senior's performance performance helped Norwich secure its most dramatic victory of the season and handed Saint Joseph's its first conference loss of the year, while also avenging a narrow setback to the Monks in the teams' previous meeting.

Norwich will return to action on Wednesday, Mar. 25, closing its five-game homestand with a non-conference matchup against Keene State College at 4:00 p.m. on Sabine Field at Haynes Family Stadium.
