NORTHFIELD, Vt. — The Norwich University men's wrestling team earned a dominant 44-6 victory over Plymouth State on Saturday afternoon, winning nine of 10 bouts and collecting five bonus-point victories in their final dual of the season in Plumley Armory.
Norwich set the tone immediately, taking the first three matches of the dual by technical fall or pin.
Robby Lyons (Milford, Mass.) opened the afternoon at 125 pounds with a 21-6 technical fall just over two minutes into the bout.
Carver Moyer (Easton, Pa.) followed with a pin at 133, before
Nicholas Berrena (State College, Pa.) added another technical fall at 141 to push the Cadets out to a 16-0 lead.
Plymouth State got on the board at 149, but Norwich responded decisively.
Aidan Morgan (Weelington, Fla.) earned a forfeit win at 157, and
Reese Bunney (East Nassau, N.Y.) delivered a pin at 165 to restore control of the dual.
The Cadets closed out the match with wins in four of the final five bouts.
Jonathan Neypes (Columbia, Md.) posted a major decision at 174,
Joseph Menkello (Burlington, Mass.) edged a one-point decision at 184,
Kevin Rodriguez (Sylmar, Calif.) picked up a forfeit victory at 197, and
Rory Nolan (Wadsworth, Ohio) sealed the dual with a decision win at heavyweight.
Norwich also picked up two exhibition victories on the afternoon, highlighted by a pin from Morgan and a technical fall from
Kade Crawford.
The Cadets will round out their dual meet schedule when they visit Southern Maine on Feb. 14 at 12:00 p.m.
