NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The Norwich Women's Ice Hockey team closed out the regular season in fitting fashion Saturday afternoon, blanking the Plymouth State Panthers 5–0 on Senior Day at Kreitzberg Arena to complete a perfect Little East Conference (LEC) campaign.
The victory secured an unblemished record in LEC play and marked Norwich's 20th consecutive win in total. The Cadets also recorded their second straight shutout of Plymouth State, with
Madison Brunet (Timmins, Ont.) turning in her eighth clean sheet of the season—tying the program's single-season shutout record.
Offensively,
Livia Brooks (Walpole, Mass.) paced the charge with her second hat trick of the season, bringing her career point total to 98 as she closes in on the 100-point milestone.
Olivia Boyer (Saint Paul, Minn.) added two assists to move to 97 career points, while blue liners
Lauren Tuzik (Frankfort, Ill.), Alex Leslie (Irishtown, N.B.), and
Jordan Brady (Green Bay, Wis.) each recorded multi-point efforts.
Norwich controlled possession early, but Plymouth State did well to limit high-danger chances against goaltender Teagan Wilson. Brunet was called upon during an early Panther power play and delivered, helping anchor a successful penalty kill.
The breakthrough came just past the midway point of the opening period. After Plymouth was whistled for too many players, the Cadets capitalized shortly thereafter. Boyer's initial shot was blocked in front. Still, Geena
Cookinham (Gilmanton, N.H.) corralled the loose puck and slid it across the crease to
Breanna Ricker (Laconia, N.H.), who deposited it into the open net to give Norwich a 1–0 lead.
Another strong penalty kill maintained the momentum, and Norwich doubled its advantage on the man advantage later in the period. Off an
Anna Lisac (Euclid, Ohio) faceoff win, Brady worked the puck to Tuzik along the blue line. Tuzik's wrist shot deflected off Brooks in front and into the net, pushing the lead to 2–0.
The Cadets continued to press for more but carried the two-goal cushion into the first intermission.
Brooks struck again just under two minutes into the second period.
Maggie Hunter (Royal Oak, Mich.) sprung her on a rush, and Brooks made no mistake, extending the lead to three. Norwich earned another power-play opportunity later in the frame, but Wilson stood tall to keep the margin at three as the teams traded chances through the remainder of the period.
Penalties once again played a factor early in the third, but the Cadet penalty kill remained airtight, finishing the afternoon a perfect 3-for-3 while limiting quality looks.
After a stretch of back-and-forth play midway through the final frame, Norwich put the game out of reach with two goals in 30 seconds.
First, Boyer and Leslie went coast-to-coast on a rush. Leslie followed up a rebound chance from Boyer and sent it home to make it 4–0. Moments later, Brooks completed her hat trick, snapping a wrist shot off the rush to cap the scoring and extend the lead to five.
Brunet was tested late but held firm, making 11 saves in the third period to preserve the shutout. Norwich finished the afternoon 2-for-3 on the power play while killing off all three Plymouth State opportunities.
Before the contest, Norwich honored the five members of the 2025-26 graduating class for their contributions to the program in Tuzik, Boyer, Brunet,
Sophie Zemianek (St. Albans, Vt.), and
Rylie McIntyre (Brunswick, Maine).
"Today was a special day for our program," said Head Coach
Justin Simpson. "Our senior celebration was incredibly meaningful, and I'm so grateful we were able to honor our seniors the right way with their families in attendance. They've given so much to this program, and it was great to celebrate them in such a memorable way. On the ice, it was a complete 60-minute effort. Our group fed off the great crowd and their energy. Special teams were a difference-maker — two power-play goals and a perfect penalty kill. Madi was outstanding all weekend, earning back-to-back shutouts and giving us so much confidence in net.
Livia Brooks was electric offensively, especially attacking off the rush. It was great to see her rewarded with a hat trick after creating so many dangerous opportunities."
Norwich will await the winner of the VTSU Castleton/Keene State quarterfinal matchup and return to Kreitzberg Arena on Saturday, Feb. 28, for a 3 p.m. semifinal puck drop as the postseason begins.
