Women's Ice Hockey: Boyer, Ricker Lead Charge as Cadets Complete Weekend Sweep of Pilgrims

HENNIKER, N.H.- The Norwich Women's Ice Hockey team completed a dominant weekend sweep of New England College Pilgrims on Saturday afternoon, rolling to an emphatic 11–0 victory at Lee Clement Arena to close the series. The Cadets finished the two-game set by outscoring NEC 25–1, continuing their surge through Little East Conference (LEC) play.

Norwich set the tone immediately, striking just a minute and a half into the contest on the first shot of the game for either side. Geena Cookinham (Gilmanton, N.H.) picked the pocket of a Pilgrim defender in the neutral zone and broke in alone, calmly converting on the breakaway to give the Cadets a 1–0 lead before the Pilgrims could settle in.
The pressure continued throughout the opening period, with Norwich swarming NEC goaltender Kayden Lallier-Whissell and controlling possession from end to end. Midway through the frame, the Cadets doubled their lead after Breanna Ricker (Laconia, N.H.) and Olivia Boyer (Saint Paul, Minn.) went to work along the boards, cycling the puck back to Tristina Doyle (Cape Coral, Fla.) at the right point. Doyle moved into space and snapped a shot past Lallier-Whissell to make it 2–0, marking her second collegiate goal.

Norwich capped the first-period onslaught in the final five minutes. Dani Ammons (Centennial, Colo.) fired a shot through traffic that found its way through Lallier-Whissell, extending the lead to 3–0. By the first intermission, the Cadets held a staggering 23–2 advantage in shots, firmly establishing control of the contest.

New England College generated a few early chances in the second period, testing Norwich netminder Payton Sutherland (Brighton, Colo.), but the Cadets quickly regained momentum. Seven minutes into the frame, Norwich went to the first power play of the afternoon and wasted little time capitalizing. Lauren Tuzik (Frankfort, Ill.) stepped into a shot and beat Lallier-Whissell to push the lead to four.

The floodgates opened from there. Over the next 90 seconds, Norwich added two more goals to break the game wide open. Cookinham struck again, finishing off a sustained offensive-zone shift, before Madison Anderson (Green Bay, Wis.) joined the scoring parade with a goal of her own to make it 6–0.

The Cadets weren't done in the middle frame. In the final seconds of the period, Ricker found the back of the net to cap a dominant forty minutes and send Norwich into the second intermission with a commanding 7–0 advantage.

New England College turned to Lucy Armour in goal to start the third period, but the change did little to slow Norwich's attack. The Cadets continued to roll four lines and apply pressure, turning the final frame into a showcase of depth and balance.

Anna Lisac (Euclid, Ohio) opened the third-period scoring, followed by two more goals from Ricker, who completed her second hat trick of the season as part of a four-point afternoon. Libby Lane (Northville, Mich.) added her name to the scoresheet as well, closing out the scoring and bringing the final margin to 11–0.

Norwich's offensive output was matched by a composed defensive effort, as Sutherland and Dana Rigan (Lindhurst, Ill.) combined to blank the Pilgrims. The duo turned aside every shot faced, preserving the shutout and punctuating a complete team performance.

Ricker led all skaters with a hat trick and an assist, while Lisac finished with two goals and an assist. Boyer recorded four assists, and Cookinham added two goals and two helpers. Maggie Hunter (Royal Oak, Mich.), Marja Linzbichler (Graz, Austria), Livia Brooks (Walpole, Mass.), and Jordan Brady (Green Bay, Wis.) each posted two-point performances, while Tuzik chipped in with a power-play goal.

"We repeated the same effort today as yesterday," said Head Coach Justin Simpson. "We had consistent contributions from our entire lineup. We were a little loose and careless with the puck at times, but overall, it was another excellent game. I was pleased that everyone, including all 3 of our goalies, was able to play this weekend."

With the sweep, Norwich continued its strong run in conference play and emphatically closed the weekend. The Cadets will carry their momentum back on the road when they resume LEC action on Friday, Feb. 6, traveling to face Southern Maine to open another weekend series.
