NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Norwich men's ice hockey junior
Ben van Waterschoot (Whitby, Ont.) was named Little East Conference Co-Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 25, sharing the honor with Tyler Stewart of UMass Dartmouth.
Van Waterschoot turned in a strong all-around week, totaling six points across three games while helping drive the Cadet offense. Three of those points came in Friday night's contest against New England College, where he spearheaded an offensive outburst. He added a goal and an assist against Plymouth State on Saturday and chipped in an additional assist versus Middlebury earlier in the week.
At the faceoff dot, van Waterschoot won 53 percent of his draws on the week. The junior has now recorded at least one point in six straight games and ranks fourth in the LEC in faceoff wins and second in faceoff win percentage, trailing only teammate
Frank D'Ancona (Fort Myers, Fla.).
The honor marks the first weekly award of van Waterschoot's collegiate career.
Van Waterschoot and the Cadets will look to continue their strong second half when Norwich hosts UMass Boston on Jan. 30 before welcoming UMass Dartmouth on Jan. 31.
