COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. — The Norwich University men's wrestling team placed fifth out of 12 teams at the Will Abele Men's Invitational on Saturday, hosted by Ursinus College, led by ten wrestlers reaching the podium.
Norwich finished with multiple podium performances and placements across the lineup.
Robby Lyons (Milford, Mass.) led the Cadets at 125 pounds, earning a third-place finish after working through the consolation bracket and winning his placement match.
At 133 pounds,
Carver Moyer (Easton, Pa.) also placed third, collecting multiple victories on the backside of the bracket to secure a podium finish.
Gannon White (Rincon, Ga.) added another podium result for Norwich with a third-place finish at 157 pounds, producing several decisive wins in the consolation rounds.
The Cadets continued to score throughout the lineup, as
Jonathan Neypes (Columbia, Md.) placed third at 165 pounds and
Kevin Rodriguez (Sylmar, Calif.) earned a third-place finish at 197 pounds, contributing key team points in the upper weights.
Rory Nolan (Wadsworth, Ohio) capped the day with a third-place finish at 285 pounds, closing out the tournament on the podium.
Additional placements came from
Nicholas Berrena (State College, Pa.) at 141 pounds,
William Burke (Palmer, Mass.) at 149 pounds,
Jeffrey Bernardi (Bethlehem, Conn.) at 174 pounds, and
Logan Goncalves (Colonia, N.J.) at 184 pounds, as Norwich posted consistent results across the weight classes.
Norwich will travel to Providence, R.I., for a whole weekend of competition, starting with the Wildcat Open on Jan. 24 at 9:30 a.m., followed by the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Duals on Sunday, Jan. 25.
