WINTHROP, Mass.- The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) announced its end-of-season honors for baseball Tuesday afternoon. Included in the honorees from the Norwich Baseball team was junior catcher
Michael Sabasteanski (Ashburn, Va.), who was named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team for the second straight year.
"Michael was nominated for the All-Sportsmanship Team because he embodies what it means to put team above self," Head Coach
Billy Whaley '17 said. "Catching is the most rigorous and grueling position on the field, mentally and physically, and he was able to go day in and day out with the same attitude. Offensively clutch in spots we needed a big hit, and cementing himself as a trustworthy backstop for our pitching staff. Mike is trusted, respected, and plays the game the right way. By all definitions is a role model to our team and a top-tier representative of Norwich University."
In 18 games this season, Sabasteanski posted a .306 batting average to go with two home runs, 17 RBI, along with a double and a triple. His best offensive performance came in the April 18 twin bill against New England College, where he went a combined 5 for 7 with 2 runs scored, 7 RBI, and his lone triple of the campaign. Defensively, he had his best showing on April 13 against Mitchell, where he caught three runners attempting to steal. In total, he threw out eight runners attempting to steal on the season, seventh best in the GNAC.
The Cadets finished their season on a high note by taking their finale against Dean.
