CASTLETON, Vt.- The Norwich Softball team took on Vermont State Castleton Wednesday afternoon in their second consecutive road twin bill, where the Spartans would shut down the Norwich offense.
Castleton struck early and often in the opener, coming across the plate six times in the first two innings, before ending the contest early with an inside-the-park home run in the fifth. Spartan pitcher Alex Brouillet kept the Norwich bats quiet through five innings, striking out seven, while walking two.
Madison DeCota (Strafford, N.H.) led the way offensively for Norwich, going 2-3 with a double.
The Spartans kept the momentum going in the second game, pushing across a run in the first and third innings, before posting eight runs in the fourth, eventually bringing the contest to an early end. DeCota led the way again, going a perfect 3-3, bringing her total on the day to 5-6 with
Hailey Williams (Tamaqua, Pa.) also recording a hit.
Norwich will resume Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play Friday afternoon when they visit GNAC North Division foe Anna Maria for a doubleheader set for a 2 PM start.
