NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The Norwich Softball team returned to their home field for the first time in 19 days Monday afternoon when they played host to Saint Joseph's College of Maine in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) North Division twin bill.
After the Monks plated a run in the first, they added five more in the third to widen the gap. The Cadets got on the board in the home half of the third, starting with an
Adelette Gutierrez (Cameron, N.C.) double. After she advanced to third on a wild pitch,
Madison DeCota (Strafford, N.H.) brought her home with a single. St. Joe's scored four more in the contest to end the game early. DeCota went a perfect 2-2 at the plate with the RBI and a double.
Continuing their momentum in game two, the Monks started off by plating two runs in the first. Norwich answered quickly in the bottom of the frame. With one out,
Hailey Williams (Tamaqua, Pa.) laced a ground rule double down the left field line before
Maren McGinn (Georgia, Vt.) launched a two-run home run over the right field fence to knot things up.
St. Joe's widened the gap to six before the Cadets shrunk the deficit in the third.
Grace Richardson (Phoenix, Ariz.) came home on an error before McGinn drove home DeCota.
In the fifth, McGinn brought home Williams with a double to round out the scoring, finishing the second game going 3-3 with 4 RBI and a run scored.
The Cadets will continue their homestand Thursday afternoon when they host a doubleheader with Fisher on April 17 at 2 PM.
