FRANKLIN, Mass.- The Norwich Baseball team finished their 2025 season Tuesday afternoon by splitting a twin bill with Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Dean.
After a scoreless first inning, the Cadets opened the scoring in the top of the second.
Brock Carpenter (East Berlin, Pa.) got on with a one-out base hit, advancing to second on a fielding error. Two batters later, he would come around to score on a two-out RBI single by
Jakob Hayes (Arlington, Texas) to break the ice.
The Bulldogs answered by scoring two runs in the third to take the lead and extended it in the fourth. Norwich closed the gap with a run in the sixth, which opened with a
Geffen Franus (Leesburg, Va.) single before a
Ryan Miller (Westhampton, N.Y.) double. The following batter,
Michael Sabasteanski (Ashburn, Va.), brought home Franus with a sacrifice fly. Franus, Miller, and Carpenter each tallied two hits in the opener.
Dean continued the momentum in game two, taking a three-run lead by the end of the second. In the third, Norwich got on the board, starting with a leadoff single by
Baker Stewart (Leesburg, Va.), followed by a Hayes double, whom
Jack Medhurst (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) pinch ran for. An RBI single by
Nolan Knight (Altona, N.Y.) brought Stewart across, while a successful squeeze by
Kevin Ohlsen (Shirley, N.Y.) plated Medhurst.
It remained a one-run game until the seventh. Knight got it started with a one-out single before one swing of the bat by Franus gave the Cadets the lead for good on a two-run home run. Pitchers
Jordan Talbot (Belchertown, Mass.) and
Carson Rath (Glens Falls, N.Y.) kept the Bulldog bats quiet, combining for four shutout innings, two hits, and four strikeouts, with Rath earning the win. Offensively, Knight led the way, going 3-4 with a run and an RBI.
Norwich caps off its season with a victory, one where they will graduate eight seniors.
