NORTHFIELD, Vt. - For
Daniel Bogre '27, Norwich University represents both family and opportunity. The Colchester, Vt., native grew up familiar with the school, and when it came time to make his college decision, the choice felt like the right one.
"I chose to come to Norwich because of the opportunity this school gave me," Bogre said. "Having a family member come here before me made the decision much easier."
Bogre quickly embraced the life of a Division III student-athlete, competing in both men's basketball and men's soccer as a freshman. His ability to balance two sports while excelling in the classroom reflects the discipline required at this level.
"Being a Division III athlete means discipline," he said. "It means being locked in at all times both on the court and in the classroom. Having the ability to balance both has been a blessing at this level."
In his first season with the men's soccer team, Bogre was part of an unforgettable Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament run. As the No. 5 seed, Norwich stunned the competition, earning road victories over No. 4 Albertus Magnus and No. 1 Saint Joseph's (Maine) to reach the GNAC Championship game. That deep playoff push created a lasting memory for Bogre--one that was strengthened when he experienced another postseason run with the men's basketball team.
"The most rewarding part of my journey here at Norwich has been the family and friends that I have made along the way," he said. "Having the opportunity to make deep playoff runs in two sports has given me the chance to grow closer to my teammates and my coaches."
Bogre and the basketball team reached the GNAC Semifinals during his freshman season and returned to the playoffs in his sophomore year, qualifying for the GNAC Quarterfinals. While his role on the court was not defined by individual statistics, his contributions as a teammate and competitor were invaluable.
Among the many highlights in his young career, two moments stand out.
"My favorite memories at Norwich [are] the chance to play for a conference championship with the soccer team and making it to the semifinals with the basketball team in the same year," he said. "It gave me the motivation to want to be in that situation every year."
Bogre's experiences have shaped his outlook, and as he continues his journey, he hopes to inspire future Division III athletes to trust the process.
"My advice for the kids coming to a DIII is to keep calm and focus on your craft," he shared. "If you stay the course and focus in the classroom and work hard on the court, your goals will be reached."
With two years still ahead of him, Bogre remains focused on making the most of his time at Norwich--pushing himself and his teammates to reach new heights in both basketball and academics.
