STOWE, Vt. - The Norwich University men's tennis team extended its undefeated streak against Vermont State University Johnson to 17 straight victories, rolling past the Badgers in a 9-0 sweep at the Topnotch Tennis Academy on Wednesday afternoon.
The Cadets were in complete control from the opening serve, sweeping doubles play to establish an early 3-0 lead before cruising through singles action to lock in the shutout. Norwich surrendered just six total games in doubles and 14 across all singles matches, displaying another dominant performance in non-conference action.
In doubles, the pairings of
Terrance Bayly-Henshaw (Scottsville, N.Y.) and
Jaxson Redmond (Kennebunkport, Maine), and
Keagan Bakke (Gun Barrel City, Texas) and
Gabe Wettig (Ballston Spa, N.Y.), each blanked their opponents with 8-0 victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots.Â
Thomas Riddick (Clayton, N.C.) and
Stephen Hartigan (Tyngsboro, Mass.) secured the third win with an 8-1 decision at No. 3 doubles.
The Cadets maintained their strong play in singles, with Wettig, Riddick, and
Ethan Teluk (Manlius, N.Y.) each earning decisive victories. Meanwhile,
Brandon Adamson (Londonderry, N.H.),
Aerielle Harris (Las Vegas, Nev.), and
Hayden Frazer (Deerfield, Wis.) all battled through competitive sets to secure their first wins of the season, sealing the clean sweep for Norwich.
With the victory, Norwich remains undefeated against VTSU Johnson dating back to 2012, earning their 17th-straight victory over the Badgers since a 7-2 win on Apr. 12, 2012.
