NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The Norwich Men's Ice Hockey team closed out their weekend series with Salve Regina Saturday afternoon in a contest where the Seahawks scored four straight goals to earn a weekend split in crucial New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.
After an early Cadet man advantage was killed off, the maroon and gold kept the momentum going by putting Salve goaltender Selby Warren to the test. As the period progressed, the Seahawks would take the upper hand and eventually grab the lead with a goal by the leader in the NEHC in points, Arvega Hovsepyan taking the lead into intermission despite stellar play in goal from
Sami Molu (Toronto, On.).
Looking to answer, Norwich came out of the locker room with the momentum, and would tie the contest six and a half minutes in.
Jason Galotti (Hanover, Mass.) sent a long pass through the neutral zone where he found
Ben van Waterschoot (Whitby, On.). Van Waterschoot carried the puck behind the cage before centering it to
Johnny Johnson (Naperville, Ill.) to even the score at one.
The Cadets kept pressing to take the lead, but Salve would break the tie against the flow of play courtesy of Max Jaldung halfway through the second. Norwich kept the momentum going, but the score remained 2-1 after forty. In the third, the Seahawks extended their lead with Cade Destefani scoring his first of two goals in the contest, starting a three-goal period clinching the win for Salve Regina.
Norwich will remain on home ice where they will open their final home series of the regular season when they welcome Elmira to Kreitzberg Arena on Feb 14 at 7 PM.
