WINTHROP, Mass. - The Norwich University women's swimming & diving team remained among the Great Northeast Athletic Conference's (GNAC) most decorated programs this fall, as senior
Reilly Laitala (Sterling, Mass.) earned GNAC Diver of the Week honors, while freshman
Delaney Allen (Gibsonia, Pa.) was named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
The Cadets edged Husson University, 151-140, in a thrilling home victory on Saturday afternoon at Goodyear Pool, remaining unbeaten in dual meet action. Norwich collected nine event victories across the 16-event schedule, with Laitala and Allen each playing critical roles in the Cadets' narrow triumph.
Laitala swept both rounds of 1-meter diving for the third straight meet, posting a 208.65 in the six-optional dive round and a 149.80 in the five-voluntary segment. Both scores cleared the field by more than 10 points, as the two-time defending GNAC Women's Diver of the Year extended her dominance on the boards.
The weekly recognition is Laitala's 14th career honor, following a six-award campaign in 2024-25 and now three nods this season, further solidifying her status as one of the most decorated divers in conference history.
Allen delivered a standout performance in her second collegiate dual meet, sweeping her individual events while anchoring a key relay win in the early stages of the meet. She opened the day with a strong showing in the 400-yard medley relay, teaming with
Burgan Danger (Wadsworth, Ohio),
Vivian Buntin (Middlebury, Conn.), and
Katelyn Daly (Pensacola, Fla.) for a 4:33.19 finish and a win by more than three seconds.
The rookie followed with three individual victories, claiming the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.84), 50-yard breaststroke (34.59), and 50-yard freestyle (26.62) to help the Cadets establish control in the first half of the meet.
Norwich will return to Goodyear Pool on Saturday, Nov. 8, to close out its three-meet homestand against Maine Maritime Academy. First races are scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
