WINTHROP, Mass. - The Norwich University women's swimming & diving team continued to shine among the Great Northeast Athletic Conference's (GNAC) top programs, as senior
Reilly Laitala (Sterling, Mass.) earned GNAC Diver of the Week honors, while senior
Brandy Lewis (Strafford, Vt.) and freshman
Burgan Danger (Wadsworth, Ohio) were named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
The Cadets opened their home slate in dominant fashion on Saturday, rolling past Regis College, 147-86, in their first GNAC dual meet of the 2025-26 campaign. Norwich collected nine victories across the 13-event schedule, with Laitala, Lewis, and Danger each playing key roles in the team's commanding performance.
Laitala swept both rounds of 1-meter diving for the second-straight meet, earning a 225.15 in the six-optional dive segment and a 171.30 in the five-voluntary round. Both scores cleared the field by more than 20 points, as the two-time defending GNAC Women's Diver of the Year extended her dominance on the boards.
The weekly honor is Laitala's 13th ever at Norwich, following a six-award campaign in 2024-25 that helped further establish her as one of the most decorated divers in conference history.
Lewis captured a pair of distance freestyle wins in Saturday's victory, cruising to a time of 12:19.53 in the 1000 free and returning later in the meet to claim the 500 free in 5:59.02. Both times finished well ahead of the field.
Danger also delivered a breakout performance in her home debut, collecting a win and a runner-up finish individually while contributing to a relay victory. She opened the meet as part of the winning 200-yard medley relay team, then claimed first place in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.28) and placed second in the 200-yard IM (2:37.36).
Norwich will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 1, when the Cadets continue their three-meet homestand against Husson University. First races are scheduled for 12:00 p.m. inside Goodyear Pool.
