Men's Soccer: Perkins Scores as Late Charge Falls Short Against Regis

WESTON, Mass.- In their penultimate contest of the regular season, the Norwich Men's Soccer team traveled to Regis as both teams jockeyed for position in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) postseason picture.

Off the opening kick, the Pride dominated possession and broke the ice in the fifth minute. While continuing to pour on the pressure, Regis extended their lead to two ten minutes later on Callum Park's second of the game. Seven minutes later, the Pride scored a third time to take the three-goal lead in the first 23 minutes.

In the waning minutes of the half, the Cadets broke through. Ben Rubinstein (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) won a race to the ball along the left side at the end line, before he sent the ball into the box for Shea Perkins (Carl Junction, Mo.), who tapped the ball into the bottom left corner, shrinking the two at the break.

Out of the locker room, Norwich looked to close the gap further, but chances by Perkins, Rubinstein, Diego Fuentes (Valencia, Spain), and Andrew McDonough (Gilford, N.H.) were turned aside by Wylie Gardiner, who came on in relief in the first half and preserved the win for Regis with five saves.

Norwich will round out their regular season on their home turf when it hosts New England College in the finale on Oct. 29 at 4:00 p.m.
