NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The Norwich Men's Soccer team closed out their three-game homestand Wednesday afternoon when Rivier came to town for Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.
In the opening minute of the contest, the Raiders jumped ahead with a Kamar Matthew-Murray goal off a cross from David Perreira. The Cadets responded with brief possession, but Rivier extended their lead in the 21
st minute with a header off a corner kick.
Christian Grubic (Montvale, N.J.) and
Gabriel Cantarero (Annapolis, Md.) had chances in the frame to eat into the deficit, but Raider keeper Logan Clough kept it a two-goal game at halftime.
Out of the half, Norwich had a flurry of opportunities attempting to break through, but Clough shut the door with four consecutive saves. Against the flow of play, Rivier countered and scored on a breakaway. Immediately after, the Cadets capitalized on an own-goal to break the shutout. Grubic ended the day with four shot attempts, while
Oleksandr Kharchuk (Ukraine) and
Cameron Albrecht (Albuquerque, N.M.) had two each.
Norwich will return to the road for their next contest when it travels to Mitchell for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff on Oct. 18.
