Women's Swimming & Diving: Laitala attains 11th-ever GNAC Diver of the Week plaudit, Lewis nets Honor Roll laurels

WINTHROP, Mass. - Unparalleled heights continue to be reached by the Norwich University women's swimming & diving team, as Reilly Laitala (Sterling, Mass.) corralled her 11th-ever Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Diver of the Week nod while Brandy Lewis (Strafford, Vt.) was named to the Honor Roll, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

The Cadet women claimed first-place finishes in 13 of 16 events, securing a dominant victory over Plymouth State, 204-69, at the PSU Natatorium on Saturday afternoon.

Laitala was unstoppable yet again in diving competition, this time leading the pack in a pair of events at Plymouth State over the weekend.  She first logged a 221.70 score in 1-meter diving, over 20 points better than second-place.  She then took to 3-meter diving, earning a 221.92 final score.

Lewis was the catalyst of Norwich's victory, racking up the most individual wins of anyone with three.  She first posted a 2:28.41 in the 200-yard IM, followed by a 5:46.73 in the 500-yard freestyle.  She earned her third solo victory by touching the wall in 1:09.50 in the 100-yard IM.  She closed her day with a relay victory as the first-leg swimmer in the 200-yard freestyle relay, as the team finished in 1:49.61.

Laitala's Diver of the Week plaudit is the sixth for her throughout the 2024-25 campaign and the 11th overall for her career.  Lewis earned a spot on the GNAC Honor Roll after being tapped to the weekly list last week.

Laitala, Lewis, and the Cadets closed head-to-head action with a 5-1 record after Saturday's meet at Plymouth State.  A select group of swimmers will participate in the two-day Middlebury Invitational in Middlebury, Vt., over Friday, Jan. 31, and Saturday, Feb. 1.  Norwich, with hopes of defending back-to-back conference titles, will then turn its attention to the three-day Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) from Feb. 7 through Feb. 9.
