WINTHROP, Mass. - The Norwich University women's swimming & diving team resumed their weekly collection of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) after their first meet back from the holiday break, as
Reilly Laitala (Sterling, Mass.) received her fifth-straight GNAC Diver of the Week while
Brandy Lewis (Strafford, Vt.) and
Alannah Kelliher (Middleboro, Mass.) landed on the GNAC Honor Roll, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
The Cadet women proved victorious in every single event throughout their Senior Day meet with GNAC foe Elms College, topping the Blazers, 222-54.
Laitala swept the competition in Norwich's Senior Day meet against Elms, first capturing the 1 meter diving 6 optional with a 188.10 score. The Sterling, Mass. native scooped up her second individual victory of the day later in the 1 meter diving 5 voluntary, tallying a 145.00 effort.
Lewis secured Norwich's first solo win on the day, swimming a 11:50.55 in the 100 freestyle and returned to the pool later in the day, posting a 5:49.51 effort in the 500 freestyle, before taking to the pool for back-to-back events to close the meet. The first was the 200 IM, where Lewis touched the wall in 2:27.04 to come in first, and then she swam the first leg of the 200 freestyle relay team, piloting the squad to a first-place 1:48.49 effort.
Kelliher opened her day by swimming the second leg of the 200 medley relay team that finished 2:05.72, before returning a few events later for the 50 breaststroke, claiming first place on a 34.71 time. She took to the pool very soon after, logging a 26.57 effort in the 50 freestyle to capture the top spot. Kelliher closed her day by swimming the final leg of the 200 freestyle relay, capping off the team's 1:48.49 effort.
Laitala's Diver of the Week nod is the fifth for her during the 2024-25 campaign and the 10th overall for her career. Lewis and Kelliher have both received GNAC Swimmer of the Week accolades this season, joining
Maria Piekarczyk (Dudley, Mass.) as Norwich women's swimmers to be tapped to the GNAC Honor Roll.
The Cadets will see action in one more dual meet this season, traveling to Plymouth State University on Saturday, Jan. 18, for a 12:00 p.m. bout. Norwich will then take a select number of swimmers to the Middlebury Invitational in Middlebury, Vt., over Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, before all eyes turn to the three-day GNAC Championship, hosted by Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Mass., from Feb. 7 to Feb. 9.
