NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The Norwich Women's Soccer team returned to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Saturday afternoon when they played host to Simmons.
The Cadets came out of the gate looking to press the attack, 13 minutes in they would get on the scoreboard. After stealing the ball away from a Shark defender,
Kat Probst (Gouverneur, N.Y.) would break in all alone and send a ball along the turf with her left foot to the bottom left corner for the unassisted tally. Norwich continued to press the Simmons defense, including a goal called back by an offside, but could not muster another shot on target. The one goal advantage remained at the half despite a 7-1 shot edge for the maroon and gold while also taking all four corner kicks.
In the second half, the Cadets continued to press, and would extend their lead. After several chances by
Harley Murphy (Guyton, Ga.) were denied, she would touch the ball to Probst on the left side of the field. She would send a ball from the football goal line just inside the left post with her right foot to push the Norwich led to two.
The Norwich defense held off a late charge by the Sharks. In the final minute, Simmons would break the goose egg to get the game to its final score of 2-1, preserving another win for
Hannah Jenkins (Manchester, N.H.).
The Cadets will continue their lengthy homestand Tuesday evening Oct. 1 when they host Emmanuel at 6 PM.
