PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Norwich University women's volleyball team was dealt a loss by Plymouth State University on Tuesday afternoon, as the Panthers claimed a sweep (10-25, 10-25, 10-25) over the Cadets at Foley Gymnasium in non-conference action.
After a swift 3-0 burst by Plymouth State to kick off the first set, the Cadets responded with three-straight points and kept close with the hosts throughout the ensuing sequences. The Panthers began to seize control behind a 12-2 spurt, however, en route to locking up set one.
Norwich thrived early in the second affair, taking an early 3-2 lead and maintaining a 4-4 deadlock before the Panthers offense erupted. Plymouth State continued that momentum into the third frame, despite a few runs by the Cadets throughout the final two stanzas.
Abby Kanaga (Apopka, Fla.) paced the team in kills with three, while
Ava Nihill (Marshfield, Mass.) handed out four assists.Â
Cameryn Jenkins (Monroe, Mich.) led Norwich with eight digs.
The Cadets will look ahead to Saturday, Sept. 14, for their home opener. Norwich first hosts Regis College (Mass.) for the Cadets' Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener at 11:00 a.m., before battling the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts at 3:00 p.m. in a non-conference bout. Regis and MCLA will duel with one another during the 1:00 p.m. stretch.
