MIDDLEBURY, Vt.- The Norwich baseball team returned to the Green Mountain state Tuesday for a late afternoon affair with Middlebury in the first regular season meeting between the two programs since 2016.
After the Cadets were retired in order in the first, the Panthers jumped ahead with a two out two-run home run over the high wall in left field. In their next time at bat, Middlebury would add a three-run homer to dead center extending their lead to five. Eventually, they extended their lead to seven in the third on their third dinger of the first three innings. Norwich broke the shutout in the fifth, beginning with a lead off double by
Tyler Callahan (Arlington, Mass.). Two batters later,
Michael Sabasteanski (Ashburn, Va.) punched a hole through the left side of the infield bringing home Callahan.
Middlebury plated four more runs to push their lead to ten, where the game would stand. Sabasteanski singled in his other at bat making him two for two on the day. The Cadets will return to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play Saturday afternoon when they host a doubleheader with Colby-Sawyer starting at 1 PM.
