Women's Rugby: Cadets dominate regular-season finale, claim Polar Bear 7's Tournament Championship

More information to come...

BRUNSWICK, MAINE -
The Norwich University women's rugby team closed their 2024 7's campaign with yet another tournament championship, this time coasting to the Polar Bear 7's Rugby Tournament title behind dominant performances on both ends of the field on Sunday afternoon.

In a four-field affair, the Cadets secured victories over New England College, the University of New England, and host Bowdoin College in pool play, outscoring the three teams, 78-15, over three games in the morning and afternoon.

Norwich opened the day with a shutout 22-0 win over the Pilgrims, before avenging a loss to UNE last weekend, cruising past the Nor'easters, 20-5.  The Cadets closed pool play by putting on their best offensive showcase of the day, sinking the Polar Bears, 36-10, to go undefeated and clinch the #1 spot in the afternoon's title game.

The Cadets earned a rematch with the Nor'easters in the championship game after UNE topped NEC and Bowdoin to take the #2 seed.  Norwich nearly repeated its output from its match-up against the University of New England during the Chris Munn 7's Tournament Championship two weeks ago, all the while holding the Nor'easters to their same score, as the Cadets toppled UNE, 19-10, to win the Polar Bear 7's Tournament.

The women's rugby team concludes a wildly successful 7's season under first-year Head Coach Baylee Annis '14, as the Cadets secured both the Chris Munn 7's and Polar Bear 7's Tournaments.  The Cadet program will now look ahead to the fall's 15's season, when Norwich transitions to National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) Division I, all the while celebrating the program's 40th anniversary.
