CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Norwich University women's lacrosse team disarmed the Elms College Blazers, 16-4, to secure their third-straight victory in commanding fashion in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) clash on Tuesday evening at Leary Field.
Leocadia Clark (Stowe, Vt.) tied the Blazers herself, rattling in four goals to pace the Cadet offense.Â
Caitlyn Fielder (East Calais, Vt.) and
Athena Merck (West Yarmouth, Mass.) also tallied hat tricks, ripping in three goals each, while
Julia Gutke (Stockholm, Sweden) also tucked away multiple goals with two.Â
Quinn Mustone (Medford, Mass.),
Tori Jarvis (South Windsor, Conn.),
Ellie Moriarty (Stowe, Vt.), and
Breanna Ricker (Laconia, N.H.) rounded out the offensive showcase, each supplying a goal, with Moriarty also handing out three helpers.
Fielder kicked off the affair just over a minute into the contest, setting in motion a a 4-1 first period, with tallies from Clark, Gutke, and Mustone. The second period featured a Cadet shutout, as Fielder, Merck, Clark, and Jarvis put together a dominant 4-0 showing. Jarvis proved responsible for the goals to end the first period and spur the second, connecting with Mustone and Fielder to collect two assists.
Norwich's best offensive success came in the third when Moriarty, Clark, and Ricker threaded in three goals to extend Norwich's lead to double-digits. Greta Frankwicz responded for the Blazers on back-to-back goals, but Norwich again ripped off three-straight scores, with Merck responsible for two before Clark collected her fourth.
After the Blazers got a man-up opportunity to open the fourth, Gutke answered with her second man-down score. Fielder closed the thrilling night under the lights with a goal with 33 seconds remaining, giving the Cadets their largest lead and securing the 16-4 victory.
The Cadets controlled every statistical category, owning 43 shots to just 12 for the Blazers. The cadets were a near-perfect 14-15 on clears while scooping up 26 ground balls. Norwich decimated Elms in draw controls, claiming 19 to the Blazers' four. Fielder won six of those, while Clark hauled in five.
Norwich's defense was also stifling, generating 20 Blazer turnovers, with
Celine Juneau (Chazy, N.Y.) responsible for five of those. Ricker just barely trailed, forcing four miscues.
Maeve Noble-Lowe (Freedom, Maine) claimed another win on the season, making six saves in 60 minutes of action in between the pipes.
Norwich now heads south on Saturday, Apr. 6, traveling to Boston, Mass., for a 1:00 p.m. bout at Simmons University. The Cadets then return home on Tuesday, Apr. 9, to battle New England College in a 7:00 p.m. evening bout.
