Men's Lacrosse: Fleury's five goals lead quintuplet of scorers over Pilgrims

HENNIKER, N.H. - The Norwich University men's lacrosse team continued its undefeated romp of North Divisional rivals, this time taking down New England College, 9-7, on Wednesday evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) clash.

Drew Fleury (Nashua, N.H.) paced the Cadet offense, finding the back of the net five times to tally over half of Norwich's offensive output.  Matt Meehan (Norfolk, Mass.), Tyler Seidel (Centreville, Md.), Christian Rainis (Wynantskill, N.Y.), and Coley Bagwell (York, Pa.) supplied the rest of Norwich's offense, logging a goal each.

After a scoreless stalemate for the initial 13 minutes, Fleury put the first points on the board, as Seidel connected with him first before Bagwell found him with three seconds remaining to put the Cadets ahead by two at the first buzzer.

The Pilgrims rushed ahead behind three-straight scores in the opening five minutes of the second frame, before Norwich rallied for three-in-a-row behind Seidel, Fleury, and Rainis, with the latter two coming on man-up opportunities.

The hosts whittled the lead back down to one before halftime, but Bagwell and Fleury extended the lead to 7-4 halfway through the third period.  Back-to-back scores from the Pilgrims again brought the advantage down to one, but Fleury's fourth goal and an insurance tally from Meehan sealed the deal in the final frame, before one last score from New England College in the waning minutes.  Fleury played keep away in the final moments, preventing the Pilgrims from garnering an opportunity.

The Cadets controlled the offensive rhythm, taking 32 shots and converting 17 successful clear attempts.  Thomas Muraski (Keller, Texas) claimed 13 face offs for the Cadets.

Norwich's defense created eight Pilgrim turnovers, with Jackson Forbes (Merrimack, N.H.) and Bagwell generating two apiece.  The Cadets secured 33 ground balls, with Muraski leading the way on six opportunities.

Thomas Hopkins (Chelmsford, Mass.) picked up another win in the crease, logging 10 in a full 60 minutes of action.

Norwich will hit the road for another North Divisional game on Saturday, Apr. 20, traveling to Rivier University for a 1:00 p.m. bout.
