NEW LONDON, Conn.- After the winter storms subsided, the Norwich baseball team journeyed back to Connecticut to continue Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) competition with their first ever meeting with Mitchell Sunday afternoon.
After both sides were held scoreless to start, the Mariners broke the ice in the bottom of the second with three runs after three consecutive doubles. The Cadets would answer in the following half inning starting with a single up the middle by
John O'Connor (Southington, Conn.). O'Connor was driven in by
Geffen Franus (Leesburg, Va.) in the next at bat with an RBI double to right center to shrink the deficit to two. Mitchell would respond with three more runs in the bottom of the third.
Trevor Lussier (Lyndonville, Vt.) continued his hot week with an RBI double in the top of the eighth to close out a two for three day at the plate.
Norwich will continue GNAC play this weekend when they visit Elms on March 29 with doubleheader action starting at 1 PM.
