Men's Basketball: Norwich's four-game winning streak snapped in loss to Saint Joseph's

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Despite capturing early momentum, the Norwich University men's basketball team could not shut down a high-octane Saint Joseph's College of Maine offense, dropping a 87-67 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest to the Monks in Andrews Hall on Tuesday evening.

Owen Liss (West Suffield, Conn.) paced the effort, posting a 19-point, 10-board double-double to lead three double-digit scorers.  Jalen Olivero (Holyoke, Mass.) tallied 14 points off the bench with three steals, while Rodrick Pearson (Hartford, Conn.) added 10 points in 15 minutes of play.

A quadruplet of freebies from Joe Joe DuBrul (Shelburne, Vt.) opened the scoring, as the Cadets scooped up a quick five-point lead on an Omarion Jett (Montclair, N.J.) trey.  The Monks swiftly quelled Norwich's flow, however, rushing out to a double-digit lead that grew to as large as 19 at the break.

Despite Saint Joseph's extending the advantage past 20 out of the gates, the Cadets found some life halfway through the stanza, whittling the lead down to 14 on a Kohlby Murray (Fair Haven, Vt.) jumper.  The Monks would again halt the newfound momentum, keeping Norwich at bay to secure the 20-point win.

The Cadets maintained a few advantages, including dominant edges in fast break points (23-8) and points in the paint (42-30), along with a 19-13 lead in points off turnovers.

Norwich will close the regular season at Mitchell College on Saturday, Feb. 17, with a 1:00 p.m. bout on tap.  The Cadets will then dsicover their fate for next week's GNAC Tournament.
