ITHACA, N.Y.- The Norwich Wrestling team opened their season over the weekend competing in the two-day Ithaca Invitational where they finished eighth, accumulating 59 team points.

Fifth year heavyweight Mason Sprinkel (Bel Air, Md.) picked up right where he left off last season, by pinning his way to the Semifinals of the 285-pound bracket. In the semifinals, he would win a 4-3 decision, before being defeated by a 9-5 decision in the first-place match at the hands of Vermont State Castleton's Evan Day.

Also picking up some victories were Thoren Berg (Holliston, Mass.) who picked up a couple of pins in the 197-pound draw, and Tyler Russ (Freehold, N.J.) going on a run in the 157-pound consolation round. In the 133-pound bracket, both Jabari Pinkney (Jessup, Md.) and Carver Moyer (Easton, Pa.) picked wins by fall, decision and technical fall en route to finishing in the fourth round of the consolation side.

The Cadets will return to action on Nov. 9 when they compete in the Roger Williams Invitational.
