WORCESTER, Mass.- The Norwich Wrestling team continued dual competition Saturday afternoon when they competed in a quad meet featuring the hosts from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), Roger Williams University (RWU), and American International College (AIC).
First up was a meeting with the hosting Engineers, who posted the first few wins before
Tyler Russ (Freehold, N.J.) notched a win by decision in his 157-pound matchup. Despite falling to WPI,
Simon Taraska (Willowick, Ohio) and
Mason Sprinkel (Bel Air, Md.) would both pick up victories by major decision in their respective weight classes.
The second dual pit Norwich against Roger Williams, where the Cadets would get off to a fast start with
Jabari Pinkney (Jessup, Md.) and
Carver Moyer (Easton, Pa.) pinning their respective opponents. After the Hawks got on the board,
Gannon White (Rincon, Ga.) scored a win by major decision before a technical fall win for Russ. RWU would win five of the last six matches with
Christopher Folsom (Essex, Vt.) taking his 197-pound bout by sudden victory.
Rounding out the day, the Cadets would face AIC, which opened with another victory by fall for Pinkney. Norwich would tally four more pins courtesy of Russ, Folsom, Sprinkel and
Tyrian Saeturn (Dracut, Mass.) to take home the victory.
Norwich will return to action after the Thanksgiving break when they compete in the RIT Invitational on Dec. 7.
