Women's Ice Hockey: Cadets Fly By Seahawks with Three Goal Third

MIDDLETOWN, R.I.- For the second consecutive game, the Norwich Women's Ice Hockey team erupted in the third period to complete their weekend road sweep of Salve Regina Saturday afternoon.

The Cadets picked up right where they left off on Friday as they dominated the territorial play, holding the Seahawks shotless for a seven-minute span early while accumulating numerous opportunities in the process. Norwich kept up the pressure during a late powerplay, but Taylor Hannafan did everything in her power to keep the game scoreless at the break despite a 12-4 shots on goal advantage for the maroon and gold. The second period was much of the same story, with the Cadets laying siege but unable to solve Hannafan, with the score remaining none after forty despite a 14-4 Norwich shot edge in the period, 26-8 for the game to that point.

Forty-one seconds into the third, the Cadets would finally break through. Lauren Tuzik (Frankfort, Ill.) outletted the puck from her defensive zone to Anna Lisac (Euclid, Ohio) which spurned a two-on-one with Livia Brooks (Walpole, Mass.). A give-and-go between the two linemates would lead to Lisac's shot high to the glove side of Hannafan to put Norwich ahead.

Feeding off the goal, the Cadets continued to push the offense to pad the lead. The constant pressure led to another Seahawk penalty which was killed off, but the Cadets would strike again soon after. After recovering the puck in the defensive zone, Olivia Boyer (Saint Paul, Minn.) poked the puck along the left boards where it was corralled by Libby Lane (Northville, Mich.). Lane would send Breanna Ricker (Laconia, N.H.) in on a breakaway for the goal stretching Norwich's lead to two.

After killing off their lone penalty of the day, the Cadets resumed the attack and would find the back of the net once again. During a cycle, Tuzik got the puck at the right point before sending it across to Olivia King (Old Town, Maine). King's original shot was stopped but Hannafan could not control the rebound and Boyer would poke it home, making it a 3-0 lead where the game would stand giving Madison Brunet (Timmins, On.) the 14 save shutout.

After concluding their lengthy season opening road trip, Norwich will hold their home opener Friday Nov. 22 at 6 PM, which will be the opener of a two-game set with Willam Smith.
