WINTHROP, Mass. - Delaney Whitmarsh (North Yarmouth, Maine) of the Norwich University women's cross country team earned herself another rout of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly awards, racking up both GNAC Runner and Rookie of the Week nods, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Whitmarsh competed in the 34th annual Mayor's Cup on Sunday, participating in an All Comers 5K in Boston, Mass., that was open for all ages and genders to race, competing alongside the Norwich men's team.
She led all female Norwich runners, crossing the line in 21:37 to finish 56th overall and third among women on a 6:59 pace.
The accolade marks the second GNAC Runner of the Week laurel and fifth GNAC Rookie of the Week plaudit for the Maine native. She previously swept both back on Sept. 9, and has been on a tear through Rookie of the Week recognitions, last receiving it on Oct. 14 after the James Earley Invitational at Westfield State University.
Whitmarsh becomes the first Cadet female runner to claim both awards twice in one season since teammate
Joelle Moore (Swanton, Ohio) did so twice last season.
Whitmarsh, with
Cece Winters (Waco, Texas) and
Shannon Driscoll (Wakefield, Mass.) crossed the line within the top 70 at the Mayor's Cup to pace the Cadets.
The Cadets will look ahead to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship, which will be hosted by Norwich University on Saturday, Nov. 2, at Norwich's Cross Country Course. The start time for the 6K race is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. A preview and more information will be available throughout the week.
