BOSTON, Mass. - The Norwich University women's volleyball team saw a valiant effort against Emmanuel College fall short on Tuesday evening, dropping a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest in three sets (18-25, 16-25, 20-25) at the Jean Yawkey Center.
Norwich held close in the opening set until seven-straight points by the Saints pushed the hosts ahead by a sizable margin. The Cadets worked to narrow the gap down to four late, 22-18, but Emmanuel captured victory behind three-straight points.
The Saints continued their momentum into the second frame, rushing out to an early advantage and withholding an aggressive Norwich rally that included five-straight points late in the stanza. Norwich's best success came in the third set, as the visitors, at one point, overcame a deficit on four-straight points to take a 12-11 advantage. Despite Emmanuel reclaiming the lead, the Cadets remained close, but were unable to overcome the hump to force a fourth set.
Abby Kanaga (Apopka, Fla.) led Norwich with seven kills, while
Lillie Ells (Centerville, Mass.) tallied three aces.Â
Ava Nihill (Marshfield, Mass.) provided 17 assists, while
Katie Finn (Peru, N.Y.) and Ells led all players in digs with 14 and 12, respectively.
Norwich hits the road once again for a weekend GNAC tri-match, traveling down to Providence, R.I., to battle Rivier University and JWU (Providence) on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. at the Wildcat Center.
