NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The Norwich Men's Soccer team closed out their brief homestand Tuesday night against Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Lasell, where the offensive prowess of freshman midfielder
Ben Rubinstein (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) carried them to a draw.
Off the opening kickoff, the Cadets made their way into the offensive end and were awarded their first of 11 corners on the night. After the Lasers protected the house, they got a chance the other way, but the dribbled shot glanced off the post with the follow up chance stopped by the Norwich defenders. Minutes later,
Diego Fuentes (Valencia, Spain) had back-to-back opportunities that were shut down.
Numerous other Cadet chances were turned away, but they would eventually break through late in the first half. After
Nicolas Lanza (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) made a save and cleared everyone out of the box, he rolled the ball to
Kam Jorgenson (Titusville, Fla.). Jorgenson sent a long stretch pass to a streaking Rubinstein who made it count, sending the ball to the bottom right corner from his left foot to put Norwich ahead in the 38
th minute.
Immediately after the second half kickoff, the Lasers would tie the game and would take the lead four minutes later. The Cadets continued to hold the territorial edge but could not break through until the 77
th minute.
Nick Depeppe (Colorado Springs, Colo.) got the ball shortly after his own throw in and sent a dribbling ball across the box from the right sideline which evaded everyone until it found Rubinstein for a tap in goal at the left post to even the score. Jorgenson had a chance that was stopped in the final minute to preserve the draw.
The Cadets will hit the road Saturday Oct. 19 when they take on the University of Saint Joseph at 1 PM.
