Men's Basketball: Murray's career-high, late trey cap Norwich's furious 23-point comeback over Panthers

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Norwich University men's basketball team rallied from a 23-point deficit, as a late Kohlby Murray (Fair Haven, Vt.) three-pointer pushed the Cadets ahead for good with seven seconds left in a thrilling 82-81 non-conference victory over Plymouth State at Foley Gymnasium on Wednesday evening.

Murray was automatic, tallying a career-high 27 points on a 9-14 shooting clip and 4-5 from long range.  Owen Liss (West Suffield, Conn.) trailed with 24 points, going 7-9 from the floor with a 9-11 mark from the charity stripe.  Joe Joe DuBrul (Shelburne, Vt.) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points.

The Cadets held strong in the early goings, enjoying a handful of narrow leads in the opening minutes, including a two-point edge created by an and-one opportunity from Rodrick Pearson (Hartford, Conn.).  Plymouth State's offense rolled, however, as the Panthers embarked on a 12-0 spurt to capture a double-digit lead that eventually grew to as large as 23, 52-29, late in the first half.

Norwich attempted to whittle Plymouth State's lead, but could not overcome the hump initially, finally getting the advantage down to single-figures on a DuBrul trey with 7:39 remaining in the contest.  The Panthers extended it back to double-digits for the ensuing five minutes, but a Murray and-one initiated a game-ending 13-0 run, capped off by Murray's go-ahead, game-winning stepback three from the wing with seconds remaining, to push the Cadets to their fourth-straight victory.

Murray was responsible for 11 of those game-closing 13 points, helping put together a masterful team performance by Norwich.  The Cadets were stellar from long range, finishing 10-15 from three while shooting 57.4% from the floor for the game.

The Cadets enjoyed leads in points in the paint (30-22) and fast break points (21-13), including a dominant 18-2 mark in the latter category in the second half.

Norwich will look to keep the momentum rolling on Saturday, Jan. 6, as the Cadets will return to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action and entertain perennial conference powerhouse University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) in Andrews Hall at 1:00 p.m.
