Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women's Ice Hockey: Cadets Tame Panthers as Clark Moves into 3rd in Program History in Career Wins

PLYMOUTH, N.H.- The Norwich Women's Ice Hockey team continued their brief road swing with a stop at Plymouth State, as they looked to keep rolling in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) play.

Thirty-nine seconds in, on their first shot of the game, the Cadets were off and running. After Emma Morel (Tournon, France) created a turnover in the neutral zone, she skated the puck into the attacking zone. Morel centered the puck to Melianne Reynolds (Sherbrooke, Que.) who put a move on the defender and scored to break the ice before everyone in Hanaway Rink was warm in their seat.

Five minutes in, Norwich would go on their first powerplay of the contest, which yielded immediate results. After the puck was kept alive in the offensive zone, it came to the right point for Lauren Tuzik (Frankfort, Ill.). Tuzik's wrist shot deflected off Jenna Nikles (Riley, Mich.) at the net mouth, and would find the stick of Olivia Boyer (Saint Paul, Minn.) off the redirection to extend the lead to two five and a half minutes in.

Minutes later, the Cadets returned to the powerplay, and eventually a 5-on-3 with Panther netminder Teagan Wilson and the rest of the Plymouth penalty kill doing all they could to keep the deficit at two. Despite their efforts, Norwich would extend their lead to three late in the period. The initial opportunity by Marja Linzbichler (Graz, Austria) was shut down by Wilson, and the Panthers attempted to clear the puck out of danger. However, Grace Joscelyn (Hooksett, N.H.) kept the play alive and sent the puck down low for Livia Brooks (Walpole, Mass.). Brooks made a move around Wilson and put home the third Norwich goal of the period, a lead they would take to intermission as the Cadets outshot Plymouth 22-1 in the frame.

Early in the second, the Panthers had their first sustained push of the afternoon, but were turned away by Leocadia Clark (Stowe, Vt.). Soon after, Plymouth would have their first powerplay of the game which tallied zero shots on goal. Minutes later, Clark would shut down an odd man rush and Norwich would find the scoresheet again. Madison Anderson (Green Bay, Wis.) poked the puck loose in the defensive zone and created a 3-on-1 rush the other way. Anderson's initial shot was stopped, but Reynolds potted the rebound for her second of the game. Two minutes later, Brooks recovered a loose put at her defensive blueline. She rushed the puck along the right-wing boards and scored her 16th goal of the campaign to stretch the lead to five, where it stayed.

"We started where we left off yesterday," said Head Coach Sophie Leclerc Doherty. "It was great to see our team come together to cap off a weekend with six huge league points. It was another fantastic team effort, led by our seniors."

The win was a historic one for Clark. It grants her sole possession of third place in program history in career wins with 34, passing Kelly Fisk '13. With her second consecutive shutout, and fourth on the season, Clark tied Celeste Robert '17 for second place in career shutouts in program history with 17.

After a number of road games, the Cadets will round out the regular season with three of their last four being played on home ice, beginning with a matchup against travel partner New England College on Feb 2 at 6 PM.
