Women's Basketball: Brewster nets 35 points in GNAC win, Cadets top 100 points for first time since 2011

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University women's basketball team could not be stopped in an electrifying performance on Saturday afternoon, decimating Dean College, 103-32, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tilt in Andrews Hall.

The Cadets were paced by a 35-point onslaught from Haley Brewster (Virginia Beach, Va.), who went 7-13 from beyond the arc while dishing out five helpers.  Sage MacAuley (Barre, Vt.) led the team in assists with six while logging a 19-point, 14-rebound double-double.  Siobhan O'Donnell (Glendale, N.Y.) and Silas Bernier (Jaffrey, N.H.) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 14 and 10, respectively, combining for a 6-7 clip from long range.

After an initial battle that saw both teams exchange three-pointers on their opening possessions, Norwich found ground, gradually pulling away until Dean trimmed a double-digit advantage back down to nine.  The Cadets hit the gas, ending the first quarter on a 15-0 run.

That momentum transitioned into the second stanza, where the run extended to give the Cadets a 31-point lead on a O'Donnell trey and eventually grew to as large as 36 in the waning seconds.

Dean had no answer for Norwich's blistering offense, which again sprung to life in the third behind a barrage of treys from Maren McGinn (Georgia, Vt.), Brewster, MacAuley, and O'Donnell, resulting in a pair of 48-point edges.

Norwich pushed their lead past 50 a minute into the fourth quarter off of Brewster, ultimately outscoring the Bulldogs, 27-3, in the final frame, ending the stanza on a 12-0 run with back-to-back layups from Eleonore Collins (Waterville, N.Y.) to pass the 100-point threshold.

The win marks the first time the Cadets have scored 100 points or more since Dec. 8, 2011, when Norwich poured 102 on Southern Vermont in a 56-point victory.  The 103-point output is the most by the Cadets since posting 121 at Rivier on Feb. 8, 2005.

The Cadets could not be stopped in any statistical category, including points off turnovers (23-5), second-chance points (20-3), bench points (46-11), points in the paint (38-10), and fast break points (13-2).  Norwich out-rebounded Dean, 58-20, all the while maintaining shooting clips of 53.3% (FGs) and 63.0% (3PTs).

Norwich closes out the two-game homestand on Wednesday, Jan. 24, hosting Colby-Sawyer College in the nightcap of a GNAC doubleheader at 7:00 p.m.  The Cadets then travel to Albertus Magnus College on Saturday, Jan. 27.
