HENNIKER, N.H.- The Norwich Wrestling team returned to dual meet action Saturday afternoon when they took on Coast Guard and New England College in a tri meet.
The festivities kicked off with Norwich taking on Coast Guard, a dominant performance for the Bears. It began with a close decision in the 125-pound matchup, but afterwards Coast Guard took firm control in a 49-0 victory. In that 125-pound matchup,
Jabari Pinkney (Jessup, Md.) went the distance with Nikko Beato. Other standout performances included
Joshua Ducharme (Tyngsboro, Mass.) who took his bout, in the 165-pound class, to sudden death and
Mason Sprinkel (Bel Air, Md.) who went the distance with Kevin Pandorf in the 285-pound matchup.
To close things out, the Cadets took on the Pilgrims after both sides struggled against Coast Guard. The final dual started with Pinkney and
Carver Moyer (Easton, Pa.) taking major decisions in the first two bouts. NEC responded by winning four consecutive wins, before Norwich went ahead for good. The tide turned when Ducharme pinned Dominic DiMaio at 2:28. Following that were consecutive wins by decision for
Kyle Merritt (Hope Valley, R.I.) and
Simon Taraska (Willowick, Ohio), before another win by fall this time by
Thoren Berg (Holliston, Mass.). A victory by forfeit for Sprinkel secured the 28-20 Norwich win.
Up next, the Cadets will compete at the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Duals on Jan. 21.
