NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Norwich University men's and women's swimming & diving teams returned to Goodyear Pool on Saturday, hosting Bates College in an afternoon dual meet in their first action this calendar year.
The Bobcats earned hard-fought wins over the Cadets, as the Bates men took a 164-98 victory, while the Bobcat women claimed a 208-53 win.
"What an outstanding first meet back, coming off the winter break. Hands down, Bates was a dominating team, but we hung in there. We witnessed a team that didn't give up and raced through to the end," said Head Coach
Jennifer Cournoyer. "Shout out to the divers who had many best scores for the season. Congratulations to
Will Thompson (Downingtown, Pa.), who re-broke the 50 breast pool record. The family, friends, and fans were outstanding, and the energy on deck was on point."
The Cadets fought valiantly with the Bobcats, taking first in a slew of events, including in the 200 yard medley relay on the men's side to open up the afternoon. Thompson re-broke his own 50 breast pool record in an exhilarating race, while divers
Reilly Laitala (Sterling, Mass.) and
Aidan Grady (Sandwich, Mass.)Â claimed dominant first-place victories in their respective diving competitions.
